  Feng Shui tips

The home and working environments are the foundation of our life and it is therefore very important to know whether the space that you live in is good or bad for you. It is not just about living in a large or beautiful house but rather ensuring that your space is in harmony with nature. If not, one could suffer bad health or misfortune. The aim of FENG SHUI is create a harmonious and comfortable environment thereby considerably improving you and your family's life.

Below are some FENG SHUI tips that will improve your quality of life.

1. Inside the house: Your living (and working space) should be kept tidy, clean & clutter free because clutter results in disorganization. If cluttered, the Qi (also called airflow) is blocked and the house has less energy which is similar to our bodies getting less oxygen. Poor airflow creates a magnetic field that is detrimental to the health and wealth of the occupants of the house or work place.

Entrance:The main door should not be directly in line with the back door and if this is the case, you should put a partition or curtain to block the straight line. The entrance should be clean, tidy and welcoming because the entrance is the most critical area for the family. If this is not followed, the airflow will be poor and could result in poor health and financial problems.

Living room: The living room should be bright and spacious; if it is dark, you need to brighten it up. Paintings should symbolize positive messages such as good fortune, love, peace and happiness. Avoid pictures with fearful or lonely feelings. It is strongly recommended not to have the sofa in line with the door.

Bedroom: Approximately one third of our life time is spent in the bedroom which is why good FENG SHUI is important. Avoid large mirrors facing the bed because the reflection doubles the magnetic field force which results in an imbalance in the room. This will badly effect health and relationships.Avoid having TV and other electrical products in the room because this disrupts the natural magnetic field and directs the radiation to the human body.
Avoid wooden beams above the bed or having a built in wardrobe above the bed.
Avoid too many windows and doors in the room i.e. not more than three windows or doors. Avoid the door of an en suite bathroom facing the bed. Your bed should not directly face or be in line with the bedroom door. Bunk beds are not advised.

Bathroom: The door should be kept closed at all times. A window in the bathroom is advised and proper air circulation is essential.

Kitchen: It is best that the kitchen be separate from the other rooms and also not positioned in the centre of the house (this could cause a heart problem). Placing the cooker against the wall is highly recommended and avoid the cooker adjoining or facing the sink (this could cause a back problem). The kitchen should ideally have a window to allow the air to ciculate and ensure that the extractor functions properly. Avoid the guest WC adjoining the kitchen.

2. Outside the house.
In cases where either there is no front garden or it is small, avoid the front door facing a main road.

Avoid a house where the road runs perpendicular to it.

Square or rectangular gardens (front & back) are advised.

Avoid building a house on a triangular shape of land.

Avoid a sharp corner from another building pointing towards the house because this causes bad energy.

Avoid a roof line of a neighbour’s house pointing towards the house.

Avoid a big tree directly outside the front door or in the centre of the garden.

The shape of the house should be square or rectangular;
avoid "L" or other shapes.  The wrong shape could cause serious physical and mental health problems.

Ensure that an extension or outbuildings does not harm the good environment of the house  i.e. a wrong design & location of the outbuilding could create serious health problems and it is highly recommended to be advised by a FENG SHUI consultant in the planning stage.

3. New build, extensions or buying a new house.
When planning to do any of the above, it is recommended to obtain advice from a FENG SHUI consultant in order to avoid wrong design, direction and layout. Wrong layout could lead to an imbalance in the energy and magnetic field which will have a detrimental effect on health, wealth and relationships.

4. Fish tank, water fountain or swimming pool.
Water represents money and wealth In FENG SHUI and it brings energy to people. However, the above items should be placed or positioned in the right place and facing in the right direction. If not, it will result in poor health and financial problems.

5. Indoor plants.
In addition to being decorative, plants play an important role in changing the air temperature, humidity and purifying the air. However, because plants represent wood element, the benefits are maximised if they are placed in the right areas..

6. Colour.
A room’s colour should be light and neutral; strong colours such as black or red are not recommended because these can lead to depression, bad temperament or anger. Each individual has different elements at birth and if these are ascertained, the right colour brings balance. The same principle also applies to the colour of clothes.

7. FENG SHUI Accessories.
FENG SHUI accessories such as wind charm, bagua mirror, crystal, dragon designs are powerful elements. The right material and colour must be selected and put in the right locations in the home or work place. If this is correctly done, the accessories will balance the energy field and enhance quality of life. Before purchasing, obtain advice from a FENG SHUI consultant.

8. Business.
Good Feng Shui is important for survival and growth of businesses. There are many factors that must be in place; for example, the premises must have the correct orientation in order to have good energy flow and it is essential that the owner’s/chief executive’s office be correctly located within the premises and have the correct layout.
If you want to have a good start for your new business or improve the viability of an existing one, then obtain advise from a Feng Shui consultant.
